This beautiful vintage serving bowl is hand-carved from genuine monkey pod wood and designed in the shape of a clam shell. The natural golden-brown tones of the wood highlight its swirling grain patterns, giving the piece warmth and character. Measuring 15.5 inches wide, 11 inches deep, and 2 inches tall, it’s a substantial piece with a graceful, organic form. The scalloped edge mimics a shell’s natural ridges, while the carved interior adds both depth and function.
Likely made mid-20th century, this style of carved monkey pod wood was popular in Hawaiian and tropical-inspired décor from the 1960s through the 1980s. Today, it makes an excellent statement piece for rustic, coastal, or bohemian interiors.
The bowl is in very good vintage condition, with only minor wear consistent with age and use, including a few small scuffs along the edge. Sturdy and smooth, it retains its original finish and patina.
Perfect for use as a serving bowl for fruit, nuts, or snacks, or as a decorative centerpiece on a dining or coffee table. Monkey pod wood is known for its durability and rich appearance, making this both a functional and collectible item.
