This vintage Japanese Hakata-style figurine depicts an elderly man seated cross-legged, extending his hand as once holding a small bird. Handcrafted from clay and carefully hand-painted, the figure wears a white robe with a green vest decorated with gold motifs, brown trousers, and a red headscarf. His expressive face, detailed beard, and relaxed posture highlight the artistry and lifelike charm that Hakata dolls are admired for.
The piece measures 8.5 inches tall and approximately 7 x 6.5 inches at the base. Likely produced in the mid-20th century (1950s–1970s), this figurine represents traditional Japanese folk art scenes, often capturing everyday moments and symbols of peace and simplicity.
The figurine is in fair vintage condition. The bird that was originally perched in the man’s hand is missing, and there are some scuffs and signs of age-related wear (see photos). Despite the loss, the figure retains strong decorative appeal and collectible value, particularly for those interested in Hakata-style pieces or Japanese cultural art.
