This vintage Hakata Urasaki figurine depicts a Japanese farmer carrying a wooden water bucket, crafted in hand-painted clay with expressive detail. Measuring 12.5 inches tall and 4.5 x 6 inches at the base, the figure is shown barefoot, wearing a conical straw hat and traditional robes, with realistic facial features and a lifelike pose.
Originally, this figurine would have included a pole across the shoulders, a second water bucket, and a ladle. These pieces are missing, making this example incomplete, though it still displays beautifully as a single figure. The remaining bucket, rope handles, and the farmer’s expressive stance remain intact, capturing the spirit of traditional Japanese folk life.
The piece retains its original Hakata Urasaki label on the base, confirming authenticity. Produced in Japan during the mid-20th century (1950s–1970s), Hakata dolls like this were highly regarded for their artistry and cultural representation, often exported worldwide.
Condition is good vintage overall, with only minor surface wear consistent with age. Despite missing elements, the figurine remains highly collectible as an authentic mid-century Hakata piece and makes a meaningful cultural display.
