This beautifully detailed Victorian butter dish was produced by the Forbes Silver Company, part of the Meriden Britannia / International Silver group based in Connecticut, USA. The hallmark on the base reads “Forbes Silver Co. U.S.A. Quadruple 182”, dating it to the late 1800s to early 1900s.
The dish features an elegant engraved floral and leaf motif with a monogram (“GFC”) on the lid. The domed top is adorned with an ornate loop finial, while the base rests on four scrolled feet with decorative handles at each side. The interior includes its original pierced liner insert (used to hold ice below the butter to keep it cool).
