A handsome 19th-century copper luster earthenware pitcher featuring a bold cobalt blue band and applied hand-painted floral sprigs. The classic baluster form, beaded borders, and rich coppery mirror sheen make this a striking mantle or shelf piece.
Materials: Glazed earthenware pottery with copper luster (lustre) finish; hand-painted enamel decoration
Style/Theme: Victorian Staffordshire; floral, rustic country cottage
Age: c. 1840–1860 (mid-19th century)
Size: 7 in tall x 5.5 in wide (approx., handle to spout)
Maker/Brand: Unmarked, typical of Staffordshire, England copper luster production
Country of origin: England
Condition: Displays well with honest age wear—overall rubbing and scratches to the luster, scattered enamel losses to the floral sprigs, minor flea bites/nicks at the foot and rim, interior glaze wear, and a tight hairline from the rim (stable; see photos). Clean inside.
Food safe? Not recommended for food or drink use due to historic lead-bearing glazes; for decorative use only.
